Suggestions for quilting

See previous post. I'm going to try to quilt this one tomorrow. At least get it started. I'm thinking about a diagonal crosshatch instead of stitching in the ditch. What do ya'll think? I am a VERY beginner at machine quilting. Piecing is a piece of cake, since I've been sewing since a child, but the QUILTING is a challenge for me. Or, since this one if for me should I be adventurous and try out an overall meandering stitch?

All suggestions not only welcomed, but needed.

I vote for the overall meander, but I am a beginning machine quilter too.

The overall meander would look great but that said I'd probably just stitch in the ditch cause I'm lazy and that's easy. :-) And my free-motion quilting sucks.

Cross hatch would be nice - it works like Stitch in the ditch without having to stay in the ditch. :o) You can use painters tape to follow for the fist "X" - it is less tacky/sticky. Does your machine have a "wavy" stitch - that is fun to use for quilting too, but takes more time - becasue the needle is moving more that just up & down.

I think that a diagonal is easier than doing in the ditch - it's a little more forgiving for a beginner. A meander would also look good, but I'm still afraid of that, too! Whatever you choose - it will look great!

I love the colors and prints for this quilt. I think the all of the suggestions for quilting are great. I am too impatient for quilt a large project. I usually stitch in the ditch.

Oh just wanted to mention that I LOVE the Redwork wall hanging. Great job.

I think the pattern of the quilt would lend itself nicely to the cross hatch stitching. It would be easy to do and stand out nicely. But it is what you like that is the most important :))

I don't like stitching in the ditch because it is too much work to follow the lines, and too obvious if you miss. I like the cross hatching idea.
What I do to cross hatch, is lay some masking tape down, and sew beside it. That way it is easy to mark, and nobody can see where the original lines were!
Another option for you is a meandering cross hatch. Just sew wavy lines diagonally across the quilt. This way, no matter how you do it, you say you did it on purpose!
Make sure you start from the center and work your way out, or use a walking foot, and make sure you alternate which side you start. You don't want to stretch all your excess fabric to one side of the quilt!
If you do feel up to meandering, I think you should try it. The pattern is busy enough that mistakes won't be too obvious. Just make a sample sandwich using scraps, and see how you do.
